pressure relief valve opening before time

The pressure relief valve is pretty much a stand-alone part on your compressor, so if it's not working correctly there's really nothing else that could be wrong other than having a bad valve. Parts like this do wear out or break down, so your first line of attack should be to just go ahead and replace it.

Assuming your compressor is indeed the one you've filed your question under, the parts diagram shows that valve as "Husky RELIEF VALVE 0100211A-3". Click on the diagram as shown on the device page here.

Doing a search on that string shows a bunch of results for that part, but nothing with that exact number (0100211A-3). You may have better luck since you have the original part to use as a guide. If you have the original owner's manual you may be able to verify the part number for yourself.

Anyway, the part looks like it's fairly cheap; I was seeing prices around $10 USD and replacement should consist of just unscrewing the old one and screwing the new one in (the use of teflon tape is probably a good idea).
