What PCMCIA card are you looking at? Other than the OS drivers I can’t see any White list involved here.

Hi @thequacker , I checked the ThinkPads Support Community and according to their forum, the T480 doesn't have a Wi-Fi whitelist. Hope this helps!

There shouldn't be a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card whitelist. For "modern" ThinkPads, generally the models released in 2018 were the last ones that came with socketed Wi-Fi/Bluetooth cards (which include the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 6). The T480s should be the same in this regard as the ThinkPad 480 and ThinkPad T580/P52s. Here are two videos that show the Wi-Fi card upgrades for those two latter models, respectively:
