My pwm pin broke of the connector of my laptop.

A while ago I wanted to change my thermal paste and when removing the fan I broke the cable of the PWM. I thought of yeah I will solder it to the board. I realized by the hard way that your soldering iron should not be too hot. My pin broke off. Is there a fan controller which outputs the same pwm signal that I can solder it to? I already have a fan spinning at fast speeds so idc if that controller breaks by me then.

Hi @brentdemeersman

What is the model number of the motherboard?

If it is an NM-D472 then here's an image showing where the pwm leads go from the fan connector for either a 1 or 2 fan variant board

You may be able to run a jumper from either RE10 or RE124 (depends on which fan, if two in laptop) to the fan cable pwm wire.

Unfortunately I cannot find a boardview file showing the location of these components so unless they're marked the board, it may be difficult to find them.

@brentdemeersman

It is also applicable for an NM-D471
