The DeLonghi ESAM family of products is a line of automatic coffee machines for making lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, and other drinks. Look for the model number ESAMxxxx on a sticker on the back or bottom of the device.

Delonghi ESAM4200S stuck on red triangle when power on

Hello, I have a Delonghi ESAM4200s with the red triangle led that lights up and stays on when I switch on. (Sometimes, 1 cup and 2 cups leds are on too).

I used the test mode (press and hold 1 cup + steam and switch on), everything worked perfectly except the thermoblock. No led turns on when I pushed the « Rinse » button, it doesn't heat up. So I checked its resistance and it was good (38ohms). The thermofuses are good too. The thermosensor is good too (10kohms). I tried replacing the power supply board and nothing changed. I checked the all switches and all works fine.

Do you have any advice on what I should check?

@dylanbeaucamp I suppose, a TRIAC that controls the heating could be defective. It is attached to the large black heat sink on the motherboard. Desolder it, determine its type and replace it. Don't forget to apply new thermal paste.

Or: try getting a used motherboard e.g. from eBay.

It's weird, I replaced the power supply board with a new one and I have the same problem. I'll check the triac anyway

Here are more details on the original fault:

When I plugged the machine in with the original power board no problem. I pressed the power button and it lit up and did a rinse cycle. Hot water came out correctly for a few seconds and then it went into fault mode (fixed red triangle and 1 cup, + 2 cups flashing).

I changed the power card with a new one and since then it hasn't started at all, I get the red triangle as soon as I switch it on.

In test mode with the old power card, everything worked fine.

Strange behaviour, I dont have a really good idea without seeing the device, sorry for that. You say, the water was hot? It remembers me a little bit to an issue which I had with a broken motor. Does the drive move smoothly, when using the testmode with the other PCB?

I've put the old power board back in temporarily and here's the problem on video, which will be easier to understand.

I added the video of the motor test. It looks like it move smoothly. The hall sensor works correctly because the ECO led flashing when the drive move.
