any tips on plugging internal connections back into phone?

the aftermarket batt replacement terminal doesn't line up well with the female port. The wiring is longer than the factory batt and this excess wire tape complicates mating. I took it apart and now cannot make the batt male plug fit into the female port, I should have made the attempt prior to adhering the new batt into place.

any tips?
