Repair information and guides for the minor refresh of the Late 2018 MacBook Air, with the same model number (A1932) and EMC number (3184). This model features a True Tone display and a slightly revised battery.

No audio or no power.

Due to water damage I had to replace the main board, audio board, and the USB-C board.

I got an issue where the right speaker wouldn't work while everything else functions perfect. This was when I replaced the audio board, same issue.

I replaced the speaker, same issue.

Even tried a second main board replacement, same issue, no sound out of the right speaker.

Noticed some of the contact points on the flex cable that goes from the audio board to the main board looked worn down so I ordered a replacement flex.

With the replacement flex installed the macbook won't charge or power on, but was able to confirm using a watt meter that it is drawing power from the wall.

If I unplug the replacement flex cable it starts charging and powers on.

Figured I got a bad replacement flex and ordered another, same issue.

If I plug in the original flex cable with the worn contact points everything functions correctly again except for the right speaker. Ideas?

Did you go into the Preferences Audio settings and make sure the speaker bias is in balance.

Update (10/29/24)

Just had a thought… what happens when you plug in a headphone do you get output on each ear?

The speaker balance is set in the middle, and when I move it to the right side speaker it doesn't make any sound come out of the speaker. Left side works just fine.

@electrode_nich - Where did you get the parts? Can you supply me the P/N’s on what you ordered and if you can look on the parts for P/N’s they may not be present.

This doesn’t make sense as there is nothing in the pathway that explains this.

I got my parts from either MobileSentrix or Injured Gadgets. Both are big names in repair parts. I own my own third party repair store. This has just been a huge debacle. I have essentially replaced every part in this macbook and I'm being forced to choose between no sound in the right speaker or not working at all. I have 3 total flex cables to the audio board, the original, one from Mobile Sentrix the other from Injured Gadgets. I have the original audio board and a replacement one from Injured Gadgets. Both behave the same. I only have the one logic board as I had to return the original replacement.
