The Xbox One S, designed by Microsoft Corporation, was released on August 2016. The Xbox One S is a redesign of the Xbox One.

Disc drive not accepting discs after hard drive replacement

I replaced my hard drive in my Xbox One S. The install worked great and the system is functioning as it should, EXCEPT my disc drive is no longer pulling in a disc. It worked fine before the hard drive swap. The drive has power. What did I miss or what is the issue? Thanks very much for your help.

Hi!

Do you hear the disc drive making any sound when you boot up the Xbox?? If not, then there is a power issue there! Please check with a multimeter. It’s possible that the drive it’s motherboard is broken tho. Please check if any power comes in. If not, check the drive it’s power port on the motherboard. If it’s not delivering any power, then you need to check the components near it.

@dan0,

Thanks for the response. I am sure the drive has power, as when I press the eject button I get the sound that the drive is empty, which it is. Are you suggesting that I could be getting this sound but the drive is not getting power? I would assume that's unlikely. My concern is that something got missed or messed up when uploading the software into the Xbox. If you feel this isn't the case, then I'm left with a drive that failed coincidentally at the same time I replaced the hard drive. Not unheard of, but just seems weird.

Alright! When you press the eject button and you do hear a sound, it's no power issue at all. No, when you hear a sound coming from the drive, it has power for sure.

I did replaced harddisk drives for multiple Xbox One's. I use this guide: Install firmware on Xbox One S (just skip step 11, this one is not needed).

After this is done, everything should work, also the disk drive.

I know that there a different updates for the actual Xbox One (original). The updates for this one is different then for the One S, One X and so on. I always used the OSU1 (also for the Xbox One Original) and it worked anyway.. So I think there is something with the drive. Sorry!
