My Xbox 360 wasn't loading disks so I looked It upp on youtube and disassembled the whole thing. Then I understood that I needed to adjust the potentiometer but accidentally did it to much, now I have been trying for over 2 hours to get to its original position! I heard that a multimeter could help but I don't have one or know how to use it.

Hi!
The default value from factory is set between 4Kohm - 6.4Kohm. Do NOT go below 3.2Kohm otherwise you will destroy the lader diode.
As you are not sure which value you are at now, it’s maybe for the best to replace the laser!

I actually bought a multimeter to measure the resistens, it was at like 11kohm😳 but now I don't know we're it should be (4kohm doesn't work)
@whitefrog when you say it does not work, is it back to where it was before you tied to adjust the laser? What were the exact symptoms. Did it read any disk? Game CD DVD ? What have you tried before you went to adjust the laser.

@whitefrog when you say it does not work, is it back to where it was before you tried to adjust the laser? What were the exact symptoms. Did it read any disk? Game CD DVD ? What have you tried before you went to adjust the laser. Which Pot did you adjust? You do realize that 11k ohms is hard to achieve and may have damaged your laser. Did the youtube video explain that you should do this adjustment with a multimeter so as to not burn the laser :-)
The reading for the DVD pot should be anywhere around 3.4k ohm >4.2k ohms and you will need to decrease the resistance to get it to read the game disk. Decrease by 100ohms at a time and DO NOT DECREASE to less that 2.8k ohms. That will burn your laser out. You may be at a point where you have to replace the laser.

Well the exact symptoms are that every time I try to run a game (have tried different) it makes a selection of different noises, sometimes short and sometimes longer. At 3kohms it says unrecognized disk and sometimes when I boot up my Xbox it reads the disk, but when I try again it doesn't. And the YouTube video did not tell me to stop... Opsie😅
@whitefrog at this time I'd start with a new laser. Adjusting the trim pot only works sometimes and replacing the laser is the proper repair. Of course, I do assume that you have cleaned the laser before you started to follow a dubious youtube video about the adjustment.
Okey... I did clean it but I'll do it again, if that doesn't work I'll buy a new laser😓
