The power input port has collapsed
The laptop power connector has broken (collapsed), this caused smoke and a shortage killing off the mains connector, it maybe just a fuse for the mains connector but it's a sealed plug. The main issue is how do I replace the laptops power input connector. That's the part where you connect the power to.

Sorry for the late reply, would you believe my 20 year old tv decided to die today.
Ok. Tomorrow I will see if another kettle lead will give power to the converter, can't think of the name.
If that works the I won't need new leads.
But still need to replace the laptop power input connector. I've an Alienware M18 r1 and a quick look on the Internet didn't show the part, so if you've any idea where to look.
Next I need step by step instructions or video, do you think any soldering is involved as this is something I don't yet have.
Thanks Martyn

This might be useful for the teardown.
Maybe think about getting using hot glue gun to use to help keep it in place.

Many thanks, for your help I've only just got round to doing this and apart from me shaking all went well the new power port is installed and charging. 🎉
