Series X burning smell

So I got an Xbox series x back in December 2023 for $350 at Walmart I used it for a while and then stopped using it for 4 months because I wanted to take a break, when I played it again it was fine until the other day I haven't used it in a day or two due to me being out of town. I wanted to play an older Call of duty game and within 2 minutes with it being on the home screen, it smelled burning and saw smoke that was easily see through and I just barely noticed. I'm thinking power supply I'm going through the warranty process with Microsoft and they said they may just mail me a new console and let me keep this one which is odd but I'm ok with it. I haven't used it since I did try to see if was working by any chance and instead of smoke and burning I just smell a really strong burning smell like plastic, if anyone can help me confirm it's a PSU issue that would help me a lot and I would appreciate it.

yes, I get that but would opening it up to check to see what could cause it to void the warranty or not? I haven't taken it apart yet and I'm nervous I could void the warranty.

@crazymoose It's illegal to void the warranty just by opening the console, but you'll have to argue that with the customer service. Anyway If I still had the warranty I'll just send it in because I'm lazy.
