Gas stays on empty

My gas gauge will not register on my chevrolet silverado 1500. It stays on the empty and no point in time does it move, ever. How can I fix this issue please?

@chevygirl13504 looks like this model uses a fuel level sensor that sends the fuel level directly to the PCM. In your case it could be an issue with either the gauge itself or with the fuel sender.

Block Image

shows you the block diagram. Chapter 12-10 in the Chapter 12 Chassis Electrical tells you how to test the gauges. Starting on chapter 5 in the Fuel And Exhaus Systems will tell you the location and repair/changing the fuel level sender.

Before doing any of those things, take a good look at tall the wiring and make sure there are no disconnected wired on the sending unit etc. You can use an ohmmeter on your sending unit. Test the resistance and check the continuity between the Purple and Black wire.
