New Ifixit battery not charging past 0%

(alternate laptop model name is Vivobook X556) The battery that needed replacing was not charging to 100% and would drop to low percentage under some power demands. Online research led me to believe some of the cells had gone bad (no swelling, thank goodness), after checking my charger and device drivers. Ifixit's replacement battery has been plugged in for 5 hours, but has not charged above 0%. I saw no abnormalities under the hood during replacement, and I reopened it to check my work. Other likely diagnoses are appreciated, thanks.

Hi,

First up I would be removing the battery and checking voltage readings with multi meter.

If you find that the battery has full voltage reading, as opposed to the 0% your getting - then you may need to research battery calibration online for your device.

If you have low voltage reading on the battery, then I would check power supply at the cable end and the plug pack first (it’s not uncommon for plug packs to go faulty), then check supply at battery charge tabs on the laptop.

If you have full voltage to laptop battery charge tabs then it is possible that either the battery is a dud or requires activation.

Another thing you could try is charging via a USB C cable if you have one see if that makes any difference.

I don't have a multi-meter, but with a second opinion, it seems the battery sent was a dud (this model is 8 years old; it was probably sitting for a long time), and ifixit graciously sent a replacement that does charge. It reads up to 90% max charge and drains at least a bit more slowly than the older one. It could still be in part the charger, but I never could see why that would. Also this system doesn't charge by USB. I've also considered if a clean OS install would do anything, but this will do for now.

That would do it. Battery and charger are related in that if one doesn’t work neither will the other. Sounds like your all fixed .
