LD dishwasher powering off mid cycle.

I’m having problems with my LG dishwasher model LDS4821WW.

Symptoms:

Control Panel goes blank and the unit stops, house breaker has not tripped.

When immediately pushing start button, there is no power, no display.

After about 5 mins, when pushing the start button there is a PF error code. The unit then starts in the last cycle selected before the “power failure”.

The unit will run anywhere from 2 to 10 mins then the problem is repeated.

Left the unit overnight with the breaker open before closing it, the unit ran ~15 min before failure. The run time diminishes as it’s repeatedly retested.

Of Note:

Unit was hard reset several times with the breaker switched off from 5 min. to overnight.

The house power fluctuated quickly off/on 4 or 5 times when the dishwater not in use. It has not functioned properly since this occurrence.

Hi @fred9785

It might take a bit to diagnose where the problem lies. Seems like something is failing when it heats up due to the dishwasher running and then when it has cooled down enough it works again albeit for a short time only before failing again.

When it fails check if there is still power reaching the main pcb.

If there is, this proves that the noise filter (LG p/n 6201EC1006T) (examples only) is OK and it may be a problem on the main pcb as this supplies power to both the control pcb and the display pcb as well as to the rest of the dishwasher.

Here's the relevant page in the service manual showing the electrical schematic, although it is not detailed as far as the actual board circuits are concerned.

Check if there's any obvious visible damage to any of the components on the main pcb, e.g. heat stressed components (or even a burnt smell). See p.14 of the manual - shown as p.13 in the page icon links at the top of the page) for how to access the boards.

If there is and you cannot determine the type or value of the affected board component, the part number for the main pcb is EBR33469404 (examples only). Search online for the part number to find suppliers that suit you best. Usually the part number is on the board somewhere if you wish to verify that it is the correct one.

Here's a parts list that may also help as it shows the manufacturer's part number for all the parts. If you find the problem and it is a faulty part, search online for the manufacturer's part number for the part, to find suppliers that suit you best.
