Network/carrier signal dropping on Ulefone PowerArmor 18 ultra

Hi, I've bought an Ulefone PowerArmor armor 18 ultra that just arrived last week. I live in Australia.

I am having an intermittent problem receiving calls, it shows 5g network signal full but sometimes when people call me it goes straight to voicemail. Interestingly, when the phone gets back online it gets me hours to receive the standard carrier SMS for missed calls.

This comes and goes, and although powering on and off the phone fixes the problem, it's not awlays necessary.

I have tested with 3 different Sims of different carriers in the 2 different sim slots and the problem persists.

I'm a noob regarding mobile networks but keen to learn. To me it seems that either I got a lemon (hardware issues) or I am experiencing carrier incompatibilities. Is anyone provide any tips on how to troubleshoot this please?

Hi @preevilarino

5G is not available everywhere in Australia but the phone should switch back to 4G (or 3G) to maintain signal connection with the network anyway.

Here's a link where you can check the extent of 5G coverage in your area from one provider.

Have you checked that the firmware is up to date?

Can't find a user manual online for the phone but can you set the network settings so that it is forced to use 3G/4G only and not "auto" or 5G network?

If so see if it maintains a stable working connection on 4G.

If it does it may be a problem with the 5G antenna (even though it indicates full signal reception) or something else associated with 5G reception in the phone.

Also if it works OK in 4G (allow some time to be sure) as the phone is a recent release, get it replaced under warranty. Online it shows that it was only available after 11/2023 so the warranty period is still valid.

If you do this clear all your data from the phone before handing it back in for a replacement i.e. backup the phone to a PC or the cloud, remove the Google account from the phone (if it has one associated with it) and factory restore the phone from the settings. Removing the Google account allows you to set up the phone again as the FRP lock won't be enabled on a factory restore If you don't remove it then you have to input the account ID and password to access the phone again after the restore to set it up. ;-)
