Apple's top-of-the-line smartphone for 2021. Released September 24th, the iPhone 13 Pro Max sports a 6.7" ProMotion OLED display, a new triple rear camera system, and 5G connectivity. Successor to the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Display Black despite screen replacement, touch still working

A couple of days ago my phone's display turned black during normal use, however touch, face id, etc. were all fully functional as i could hear the sound cues. i had recently replaced the screen with a third party one, so it wasnt too surprising. i took it out and ordered another, making sure to install it carefully and despite being a new screen the display still does not come on. i plugged it into my computer to work on and got the display to come up, and even used touchscreen on the phone to navigate through some settings. what fixes could i try to resolve this? hard resetting, restoring and unplugging the battery have all been exhausted. any help would be much appreicated.

Hi,

Unless there is something going wrong with the main board display IC, you can try doing a backup & then initiating a DFU recovery.

DFU is a deeper recovery process if no other method works.

Caution ⚠️ DFU should not be used on an iPhone that has had damage to main board or been water damaged as it can cause unrecoverable problems or totally brick the phone.

You can search for DFU restore on YouTube to see how to execute it.

You can do this through iTunes on PC or in the new Apple recovery app for PC.

You can also download and use 3u tools on PC or Mac, either option will prompt you when detecting a device in DFU mode, then you can try the recovery.

If the device is detected in restore mode (connect to iTunes), you will have to disconnect and try again until the prompt on the app says device is in DFU mode.

If using 3u tools, once in DFU mode you can flash the phone for recovery with the firmware that you downloaded.

Apple app will do this automatically.

Hope this helps

would touch still be responsive if there was something wrong with the board?

That depends on the circuitry, I don’t have access to schematics to see what drives display and what part drives touch.
