Repair and disassembly information for Samsung's flagship S20 Android smartphone, released in March of 2020.

Small computer chip inside the back cover next to camera holes.

Does anyone know why there's a small computer chip inside the back cover next to the camera holes? Is it attached to anything? How do I remove one from a cracked cover and put it on a replacement that doesn't have one?

Hi @daddyho

Looking at some zoomed in images taken from Step.13 of the ifixit Samsung Galaxy S20 Back Cover Replacement guide, it appears that the component is the board with the upper microphone.

It connects to the mainboard contacts directly below it when the back cover is in place.

As to how it is removed I don't know. It may only be glued onto the back cover.

That sounds logical, I'll try to take a look next week and see how it might be removed. Unless somebody more competent beats me to it 😅
