I recently bought a samsung nvr (model number B85300N) used off of ebay, but after i powered it on, i realized that it needed a password and username. So i'm wondering if there's a way to reset the device to factory defaults to remediate the problem?

Did you mean SDR-B85300N?
If you have the remote, turn on the device and try quickly pressing the following buttons: ↑ → 5 3 3, and check if you get a menu option to factory reset the device.
If you don't get the menu try pressing the code a few times as it seems that getting the correct timing between the digits is required i.e. not too slow or too fast.
