A clothing iron, also called a flatiron, is a heated surface used to remove wrinkles from fabric.

Disassembling Russell Hobbs Colour Control Steam Iron

Has anyone managed to get into a Russell Hobbs Colour Control steam iron 22860 without damaging it? Almost new and colour control not working.

at the rear of the iron there is a black plate with the russell hobs logo. pull down the power cord and you will see a small black cap between the power cord and the main iron body, Prise this cap out and there is a security screw which is like a phillips no 2 but with only three prongs rather than 4. Undo this screw and the black cover can be pulled out revealing a further two similar screws holding the purple plate on which has an additional screw at the top behind a purple plug so you need to prise this off and undo this screw then you can pull back the purple cover no need at this stage to remove the black surround into which it fits. The power cables and connections are now exposed and most of these are crimped connections in a small heatproof sock tied with a small cable tie. It is often these crimped connections that are a bit loose so iron will randomly heat up and work. note the two main screws on the purple plate are slightly larger than the two screws behind the purple and black plugs. You can further strip the iron from here if required

Thank you for the response, I wish I had known all this at the time. I help in a Repair Café and passed the iron onto others to see if they could do better. They did not and I believe the lady consigned the iron to the bin. Not what we are there for.

Hi @richardwal43048

How recent is "almost new"?

Looking online there's a 1- 3 year warranty on the iron (depending on location) so it may be better to go the warranty route first and get it replaced, rather than trying to fix it yourself.

Already have done that, they replaced it without question and did not want the failed iron back. Thought I would open it to see if it could be fixed. There are no screws in the sole plate and all break joints are tight.
