I've taken apart plenty of washers but this one is different and incredibly frustrating. I have a Kenmore 80 Series 110.16862502 and I cannot open it up to change the latch switch. Any suggestions? Nothing like it online anywhere. The back is one piece and the side caps are screwed to the control panel from the inside.

Hi @stephenhol62543

Here's a technical service aid that covers your type of washer that may help.

Go to p.19 to view how to access the control panel and then p.22 for how to access the internal components of the washer.

Normally, prying a screwdriver into the seam between the top and the bottom will unsnap the retainers there. Once that is open you will have access to other things.

Looks like there are screwed holding them together. Do I need to pull the whole shroud off at the same time?

something is going to snap open. Obviously, you can't unscrew things that are inside if you can't get inside. Sometimes those clip can be a PITA.

They are definitely screwed in from the inside, I'm wondering if I have to lift the whole thing up over the drum, this is ridiculous!

I have almost the same identical washer. I used a plastic putty knife pushed forward directly under the side panels on both sides and it popped open. The metal clips are only 1/2 inch from each end of the top panel. I believe on earlier models the clips are farther from the edges (and on those you can remove the side panels).

I need to change the drain pump. It looks like later models have much easier disassembly.
I still cant figure out how to get the control panel to tilt back.
There are two screws in the back top corners that looks like where the cover that has the dials is loosened,
but they are removed and the control section won't budge and the plastic side covers don't appear to move.
what am I missing. This looks like the original model 80 series.

Bill and Stephen N above are correct. I had to push with a putty knife so hard the clip dislocated from it's connection to the control panel but then it opened
