I have a hooped laptop - installed Ubuntu 22.04 - worked greatr for a few weeks, then failed to boot. Will not boot now; error: disk full. How do I replace the ssd?

Hi @brucejam

Here's an image taken from this video showing the location of the sata SSD drive in the laptop. (see red arrow in image)

The laptop supports a 2.5" 7mm sata 3 SSD with a capacity of up to 4TB (4000GB).

Note: Unlike the person in the video who doesn't, disconnect the battery from the motherboard i.e. you don't have to remove it, just unplug it (see green arrow in image) as soon as the cover has been removed and before doing any further work inside the laptop. This is so as to minimize any possible electrical damage from occurring to the components when working in the laptop. There's always power on the motherboard somewhere even when the laptop is turned off. The power button is not a power isolating button. Before unplugging the battery cable, check for any latches locking bars etc on the battery cable connector on the board and don't pull the cable out by the wires. Grab hold of the sides of the cable plug connector and gently pull it out. Remember to reconnect the battery, last thing, before replacing the back cover ;-)

Thank you jayeff !! That's the only pic I have seen that shows both fans...if replacing the SSD will allow me to boot and install I will be a happy camper. This laptop display is absolutely phenomonal (OLED 3280? x 2400(?). Don't want to toss such a nice screen. Thanks again to all who responded.

There is an easy guide on here that tells you how to do it, there are two different laptops under the UX303 family but I assume they have roughly the same build and one is just a thinner version

guide

Careful though! The type of ssd in a laptop is different than the ones in a PC, there is one linked to the guide but feel free to shop around on your own :)

Also even though it says hard drive it is really ssd, they can be interchangeable in a laptop. The only diffrence between them is just one uses a disk and the other doesn't

Reach out with any questions
