Released in November 2020, the 13" MacBook Pro features Apple's Arm-based M1 SoC with both an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU. (Model A2338 / EMC 3578 with two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

M1 MBP motherboard in M2 MBP chassis. Will it work?

Hi everyone.

I bought via FB Marketplace an M2 13-inch MBP and a Late 2020 M1 13-inch MBP for cheap due to liquid damage. I was able to clean the M2 MBP and make it work. I am really happy about that.

However, the M1 MBP just turns on but is not showing anything in the display. The M1 MBP will make a chime when powered on and the keyboard backlight is working. So I really don't know if the motherboard is faulty or the display is.

I would like to see if the M1 motherboard is actually working and I read here in iFixit that the display of the M2 is compatible with the M1 display.

Given this, would it work if I put the M2 motherboard in the M1 chassis? Thought of asking first before taking them apart. Thanks!

BTW. I tried doing a restore/revive via DFU on the M1 MBP but it won't proceed [The system cannot be restored on this device - 0xFCA (4042)].

I believe there were some minor changes to the trackpad/keyboard on these. I believe it will mostly work just fine, but based on the iFixit blog from when these launched, I am skeptical the trackpad will function as expected. But otherwise these are exceptionally similar.
