The Lenovo Yoga 2 13" can convert from laptop to tablet, tent, or stand mode with hinges on the side. It was released in January 2014.

Need help with replacing RAM + Storage ( SSD )

Hey all,

Recently got a Lenovo Yoga 2 13" from FB marketplace for $20 as it would freeze unexpectedly, show blue screen, restart by itself and give different codes.

So, I already cleaned the fan, checked the temperature, did factory reset + installed a Windows 10 through a flash driver problem persists.

Battery is good btw.

So I'd like to replace the RAM and the SSD drive but not sure about how to find the right part and where to get it from ( legit )

I'd appreciate all the help I can get as this laptop grew on me.

Before doing anything I would first run the Lenovo Diagnostics and see what is reported.

Hi @misirzada

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop.

According to the specifications you have either 4GB or 8GB of ram, which is soldered onto the motherboard so the ram cannot be upgraded. You're stuck with what you've got unless you replace the motherboard. See p.62 Item #3 for the part numbers for all the motherboards that are compatible with the laptop. The description of the part denotes the amount of ram i.e. 4G or 8G. If you decide to do this search online for the part number only applicable to what you want to hopefully find suppliers of the part.

Upgrading the HDD to an SSD may also be difficult as the existing HDD is only 5mm thick and most SSDs are 7mm thick so they will not fit in the space provided. Samsung used to make a 5mm 2.5" sata SSD but only 128GB so perhaps search for Samsung 5mm 2.5" sata SSD. Go to p.36 of the manual linked above to view the procedure to remove/replace the HDD.

You can however upgrade (or install) the SSD in the laptop as there's an M.2 slot available that can handle 2280 size SSD's of up to 2TB capacity. Go to p.39 to view the procedure to remove/replace the M.2 SSD
