found rust underneath a plate that holds switches. how to remove rust?

bought a used lioncast lk30 keyboard. it would start to turn on for 3-4 seconds and then suddenly shut off. after disassembling it I found rust on the lever that stabilises the space bar. the lever is underneath the plate that holds switches so it is not removable unless I desoldered 400-500 contacts. Is there any way to remove the rust? any kind of help would be appreciaded :)

@arminahmetovic citric acid works wonders when it comes to rust. If it is just surface rust, it should relatively easy resolve by using citric acid on a cotton tip applicator and to clean it. It will help if we can see where and what is rusted. That way we can most likely help you a bit further.
