system password on my dell optiplex 980

I have taken the onboard battery out for 30 mins, nothing, still asking for the system password. is the system password the same as bios password?

Turn off the PC and disconnect the power to the PSU and remove the jumper from the PSWD header pin connector on the motherboard for a minute or so and then replace it. Reconnect the power to the PSU, turn on the PC and check if doing this has reset the BIOS password.

Here's the owner manual for an Optiplex 980 mini tower PC that may help. Go to p.12 (of 82) Item #16 to view the location of the PSWD jumper on the motherboard.
