Phone Bricked After iOs 17.4 Update

I was having some weird ghost touch and responsiveness issues out of nowhere (no drops in water or on the floor), when I installed the 17.4 update to fix said problem, the phone screen stopped working. I know it was stuck on the hello screen because for some reason text to speech was on and was speaking like 40 languages. I was able to get into DFU and Recovery, but I went to the Apple store to see if there was a way to get my data from the phone (there wasn't) and all they offered was a $300 screen repair. After I got home the phone completely bricked, didn't turn on, couldn't boot into anything, no vibration feedback. Do I have any options?

Of course you have options. Apple isn't the end of the road for iPhone repair.:)

Probably it was stuck in Voice Over mode because there is a hardware shortcut to activate this by triple clicking the side button (or home button models with a home button) so it often gets turned on accidentally.

Did apple run any tests? It sounds to me like this might still be a screen issue. A bad display can cause no power, but so can any number of other things. I might try a couple tricks to double check that it is in fact, not powering on. Is it detected if you plug it into a computer? You won't be able to access anything without being able to type in the passcode, but it will at least tell you some more info about what might be going on.

I would also be sure the screen isn't just super dim. Use a flashlight, or take it into a dark room to see if you're getting anything on screen.

It was super dim before, but after I put it in recovery mode/DFU a few times it completely shut down, the vibrations from flipping the do not disturb switch wasn't happening either. I think you're right about the voice-over mode. When I did connect it to the PC it kept saying it had an error with the update, and would fail to update every time I tried doing it through my PC. Apple didn't run any tests, just said I should try to back my stuff up and that a screen change would be $250. Thank you for your reply by the way.

@mesroppata28715 Do you remember which error you were getting?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I'm pretty sure it was -1, the message I got with it was the update failed to install properly.
