Sensor always reads closed.

Sensor always reads closed, even with door open. Communication with base station is normal. Removed circuit board from case. Sensor reed switch on circuit board reads open with multimeter.

Hi @john77792,

What is the model number of the alarm system?

Post some close up images of the board (both sides if applicable) back here.

here's how on ifixit Adding images to an existing question

Hi @john77792,

Does the sensor measure short circuit i.e. 0.00 Ohms when you place a magnet near it to operate the reed?

Nothing appears to be amiss, so you may have to trace where each leg of the sensor goes and check what other components are connected to each trace along the way.

Are there pcb traces on the underside of the board for the through hole components or are they just soldered that way to anchor them more securely?

If the sw is open, then there must be a circuit problem if it always reads closed. If it is just this one sensor, then it is likely the sensor. If all sensors, then the control module is the suspect.

I feel a little foolish. The sensor fell off the door when the adhesive came loose. When I re-mounted it with screws I, without thinking, had it mounted 90° away from its proper orientation towards the magnet on the door jamb. The magnet closes the reed switch when the door is closed, but only if the switch and the magnet are facing each other. Furthermore, I believe the door sensor switch will only wirelessly report its status to the base station if it changes state, from OPEN to CLOSED or from CLOSED to OPEN. I would imagine this would be a battery saving feature. I will send more pictures.
