Go for a drive on a highway where you can constantly drive at >60kph for at least 30 minutes without stopping.

Try to keep the engine running at 2500-3000 rpm whilst doing this.

This will help to burn off the accumulated soot etc in the dpf, regenerating it.

If you do a lot of short trips you may want to do this at least once a month, to make sure that the filter will last a long time, as replacing dpf filters can be expensive.

First, you need to know when the burnout process starts. If you know your car, you can hear that the burnout process has started (lower, bass exhaust sound, higher fuel consumption). If you notice such signs, do as the guy above wrote - you should not turn off the engine before the end of the burnout procedure. You can also buy an OBD interface (elm327 or similar), install the VAG DPF program on your Android phone and it will show you everything there: the state of clogging of the dpf filter, whether the burnout process has started and other useful information.
