MacBook Air will not power on

Hello! I just bought a 2023 15" MacBook Air about 6 months ago. My son accidentally spilled water on it, not on the keyboard but around the hinge area. When I found it I could still turn it on and then was having an issue with it shutting off. I was able to get it back on by holding Ctrl+CMD+Shift for 10 seconds and then releasing and pushing the power button. The system then booted up and I thought I was OK. Dummy me did not immediately run a backup. I ended up powering it down and for there it will not power up. I took it to the Apple Store and they said it has water damage and could fix it but my data is most likely gone. Is there anything I can do to get this working again? I really need my data as it is 10 yrs worth and I don't have a back up. I am looking for any help! Thanks in advance.

There are people with the deeper repair skills needed to get you going, but it won’t be cheap and the repair may not last very long.

The best way to think this most repair folks are GP doctors not brain surgeons. The Apple store folks are just barely GP’s! And here you need a real brain surgeon.

I was hoping that maybe figuring out a way to remove the SSD and putting it in some sort of USB enclosure that I would be able to then get the data off.

@scottmical21092 - Apple uses raw Flash chips not a complete SSD package which would have the controller elements. Here the controller is within the SoC chip! And to add to it the Flash is also encrypted so it can't be read by any system only this system!

I spoke with a company called KrollOnTrack http://www.ontrack.com and they say they can attempt to pull off the data for a $950 fee. I'd only have to pay that if they can retrieve it. I'm trying to decide how bad that I want the data. Spending that kind of money in times like this is really hard for me to pull the trigger as I am not certain in reality how bad do I need it. Most of it is my photography stuff like settings for apps, presets for Lightroom & photoshop, etc. I am not doing much photography work anymore so worst case I could attempt to try and re-create things.For me it is all about the convenient factor after having all this right at my finger tips for the past 10 yrs. I'm trying t get my mind to move past it so that my anxiety goes away. I found a nice MacBook Pro M3 on Apple's refurb site for about $1500 but again do I really need it. My mind is all about the wants right now, but in reality do I really need them. I appreciate you taking some time on this to help me out!

@scottmical21092 - If you are going to try to recover your data how about checking iPadRehab Jessa and her team are a wiz in salvaging systems. They maybe able to do it a bit cheaper! Price List Give them a call or email
