Is dvd drive working?

Suppose i unmount the DVDdrive from the iMacs shell case, will i be able to see if its still working? Could i perhaps connect it to some enclosure, or even better (less cost) using some appropriate wiring?

Let’s back up here… if your DVD drive is having problems how about telling what is happening or not happening.

As to your direct question the optical drive is replaceable which if it’s bad. Finding a case to hold it externally shouldn’t be needed if you are just testing it. This is all you need SATA Optical Drive USB Cable

Many people take out the optical drive so they can add in a second drive HDD or SSD. Here’s the needed carrier to do that iMac & Mac mini Dual Drive Enclosure

Thanks Dan, very correct way to answer, but truth is that i want to dismantle my good old 2010 iMac (grfx card broken for the 2time) in order to start selling the parts. Unless u have a better idea :-)

@genik - This is such an old system, not sure you’ll get many takers for just for the parts.

Given the state of the graphics logic needing repairs how about converting it to a dedicated display? I’m sure you can use a second display.

I’ve already purchased a cheap controller board for turning it to a standalone display, but I’m not really happy with the brightness… it’s not like the original.

@genik - Is the kit driving the backlight or are you still using the iMac LED driver board?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

No iam not using the iMac LED, im using the one from the kit

Are there other kits that make use of the Mac LED drv board?
