Shutting off when fully opened

My 3DS XL works and operates as it should. I replaced the joystick without much difficulty, prior to thorough testing so I don't know if this problem existed before I opened it up or not.

When I open the top screen to its full capacity, the system completely shuts down and will not turn back on until I close it. Any ideas as to what is causing this? Any idea of the repair?
