Why is my laptop not turning on?

The laptop was on, put it to sleep for about 5 minutes went back to turn it on complete blank. The power button was still on so I waited for it to start but nothing. I pressed the power button to forcefully turn it off. Once off I turned it back on, the power button turned white instead of blue and the caps lock and number lock showed that they were on as the light was on. But after a minute or so it turned back off alone.

Since then it doesn't turn on, just the power button is white and then turns back off alone in less than a minute

Hi @lea66415,

Does it also do this with the charger connected, you didn't say?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

yeah it does with charger connected as well.

@lea66415

Does the laptop indicate that it is charging when you connect the charger?

If so just let it fully charge before attempting to turn the laptop on, with the charger still connected and then check what happens.

It may be that the battery was very low and the charger can't do both i.e. charge a very low battery (faulty?) and run the laptop at the same time so nothing happens when you try turning it on.

Yes it indicates that its charging when connected to the charger.

I did that but same thing happened.

Hi @lea66415

Did you happen to get it working? I’m having the same exact issue. Thanks :)

Hi @lea66415

Try a full power refresh and check if that resolves the problem.

Here’s the procedure:

Disconnect the charger from the laptop. (if connected)

Open the laptop and remove the main battery from the laptop.

Disconnect the RTC coin cell battery from the motherboard.

Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop. Go to p.35 & p.41 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the main battery and the RTC battery, respectively.

Press and hold the laptop’s Power On button for a full 30 seconds and then release it.

Reconnect the RTC coin cell battery, re-insert the main battery, reassemble the laptop and connect the charger to the laptop and try to start it.

If it starts, there may be a message about the date and time being incorrect. This is normal as the above procedure has reset the BIOS back to its factory defaults. Once the date and time have been adjusted, the message won't appear the next time the laptop is started. Any user defined BIOS settings that have been altered by you to suit your particular requirements will need to be changed back also.

Hi my laptop was working at around 9pm and I did a shut down . When I reach home and plug it the power . The laptop won't turn on at all any idea is it the battery problem or other issue?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Ronald, the exact same thing has happened to me, today. I have run through the @jayeff post, above and no success. I followed the process to the letter (I am an engineer). Nothing. Very frustrating that this has happened. Apparently, it has happened to others aside from the two of us. I wish I could find a simple fix. No one is explaining why this might have happened. If i knew, I could fix it. As it is, most people are relying on "stupid": try unplugging your system and plugging it back in." "Make sure your battery is charged." 🙄
