Can An Ivy Bridge Intel Processor function properly on a ThinkPad T420

My Lenovo ThinkPad T420 has an Intel Core i5-2540M, and I am irritated of hearing it's fans at a high speed. I heard the Ivy Bridge series of Intel processors make less heat, so can I fit an Intel Core i5-3337U into my T420? Thanks.
