The little metal plate on the upper side of the pod holder

Keurig was working just fine with knock off refillable pod cups but then one day I had to force the machine to close. The coffee still came out fine for three days or so. And then it came out like water. That evening my son was making coffee and a little metal plate popped out. I’ve attached a picture. Does anyone know what this or what it does? Thanks
