Where can I find a replacement motherboard?

My Google Pixel 7 does not charge or turn on. I took it to Asurion, who said the motherboard short circuited and would need a motherboard replacement. I'm much more concerned about recovering the data on the device than getting it back up and running.

A couple prominent data recovery companies have said that I need to replace the motherboard reball stencils, but replacement motherboards were not available.

I contacted Google tech support, who said that while they're not able to directly provide motherboards, I might be able to find a replacement motherboard from ifixit. However, ifixit said they do not carry Pixel 7 motherboards.

I would appreciate any help you can provide to find legit Pixel 7 motherboards.

Thanks!

If your end goal is getting the data back, a new motherboard will not help you because the motherboard is the component where all the data is stored. So if you replace it, you'll only have the data that was on that board.

They said you need to "motherboard reball stencils?" I'm trying to figure out what they may have meant by that. Perhaps they didn't have the correct stencil for the job, or they needed components they couldn't find? Did they tell you exactly what the problem was?

Yes, Salvage Data (data recovery company) diagnosed the phone and said they needed "motherboard reball stencils", and if that part wasn't available, they could take them off a new motherboard to fix my phone and preserve the data.

Asurion previously diagnosed the phone as having a short in the motherboard, with resulting heat damage.

@peterj616 I think I get it. They need stencils and particular components so they can repair yours. That makes much more sense. In that case, probably a site like e-bay will be your best bet. You don't necessarily even need that board, or the phone to work entirely, just the parts they need to harvest from it.

I’m sorry to hear that your Google Pixel 7 does not charge or turn on, and that you need to recover the data on the device. Finding a replacement motherboard for the Pixel 7 can be challenging, as it is a relatively new and rare model. However, there are some possible sources you can try:

  • You can check online marketplaces such as eBay or AliExpress for sellers who offer Pixel 7 motherboards or parts. However, you should be careful and verify the authenticity and quality of the products before buying them, as some sellers may sell fake or defective items. You should also check the seller’s ratings, reviews, and return policy.
  • You can look for local repair shops or technicians who specialize in Google Pixel phones or Android devices. They may have access to Pixel 7 motherboards or parts, or they may be able to repair your existing motherboard. You can use Google Maps or Yelp to search for nearby repair services and read their reviews and ratings. You should also contact them and ask for a quote and a warranty before proceeding with the repair.
  • You can contact Google directly and ask for a replacement device under warranty or for a fee. This may be the most reliable and secure option, as you will get a genuine and functional Pixel 7 device from Google. However, this may also be the most expensive option, and you may lose your data if you cannot transfer it from your old device. You can contact Google support from this link and follow the instructions.

I hope these suggestions help you find a replacement motherboard for your Pixel 7. If you have any questions or need more assistance, please let me know. 😊
