battery replacement: charging on hold doesnt charge, notification

Hello guys! I finally changed battery in my iPhone XS aand I'm left without a phone. Not sure what went wrong but here it what happened: I changed the battery (from ifixit), turned on the phone, plugged the charger, and left it for an hour. When I wanted to check how it was going the % of the battery dropped from 46% to 41% and I had a notification: "Charging on hold, charging will resume when iPhone returns to normal temperature", was surprised, the phone wasn't even warm. I restarted it and the battery dropped again from 41% to 36%, plugged the charger again and got the same notification. What do you think, I got a defective battery or I broke something in the phone.. Opened the phone again to see if I made any mistake or any scratches on the flex charging cable but everything looks fine...

There are temperature sensors built into the battery so yes it is entirely possible they're giving bad temperature readings to the phone causing the charging to get put on hold.

If your old battery is still around and at least partially functional, I'd suggest plugging it back in to see if the problem goes away with the original. If so, that would pretty much confirm the replacement battery has issues. If that turns out to be the case, you'll want to contact iFixit Store personnel by emailing them at support@ifixit.com and they'll get you fixed up.

I had a similar issue with an Apple Watch battery and they shipped a replacement out immediately and got me all taken care of, so I can heartily recommend their customer service.

Thank you for your answer! I really appreciate it! The old battery is a bit bent after my replacement and it doesn't look the best, don't want to risk it.. Are there any temperature sensors inside the phone that I could have damaged somehow? I'll order some cheap alternative battery just to check if the one from ifixit is broken.

@szewczukkuba As far as I know the sensor on the battery is the only temperature sensor that can cause the issue you're seeing, but it's impossible to be sure since Apple keeps that information to itself so we can only go by what people have found out for themselves.

The cheapo battery sounds good; it won't cost you much to determine if the iFixit battery is bad or not and you'll be able to use it while you wait for a replacement from iFixit if that's the problem. Just put the phone back together but forgo the adhesives until you the the battery replaced.

@dadibrokeit Thank you once again, ordered a new battery and I hope it was just bad luck with ifixit battery

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@dadibrokeit yhmm, that's weird. Got the new battery, was ready to put it in but before that, I wanted to record a video to have a proof that the battery from ifixit was defective but now it charges normally. Dunno what to do, should I just keep it or it's not safe?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@szewczukkuba Lol, doesn't it figure? I had a similar situation; a brand new LCD screen that just wouldn't work. I bought a replacement and was fiddling with it just prior to putting the new screen in and for no visible reason it started working. I left it as it was and it's still working to this day.

So yeah, I'd say stick with the iFixit battery until and unless something goes wrong or it stops working. May have just been some sort of software glitch that finally straightened itself out, but who knows?
