Replace battery in Samsun "Smart" solar remote (RMCSPB1EP1)

Has anyone managed to open their Samsung TV "smart" remote (Part no: RMCSPB1EP1) with the solar panel?

Mine is no longer holding charge (only 2 or 3 years old) and I'd rather open and replace the battery than throw away an otherwise perfectly functional remote and have to pay AU$130 for a replacement remote.

Samsung are promoting the remote as being "eco friendly" because it doesn't take alkaline batteries, but they've made sure it's very hard to get into to replace the (presumably LiPo) battery.

I have the same problem. Less than 2 year old tv only used occasionally. Whenever I do want to use the tv the remote it has to be plugged in to turn tv on. It charges fast when plugged in but won’t hold charge more than a few hours. Repeat next day. I feel like I have one of those “wired remotes” from back in 70s. Definitely won’t spend $140 to replace it with the same thing.

Use this link to examine an opened remote; https://electric.garden/samsung-a3l/smar.... Examine and enlarge the images for clues for mounting hardware or lack of them. If mounting screws aren't visible, they may be hidden under labels. Use a small round object or fingernail and press on the label. Any depression may be where screws are and require peeling off the label. If screws aren't used, the case may snap together, requiring careful prying to find where the clamshell snaps together. If you are successful in disassembling the case halves, locate the batteries and either desolder them and/or attempt to power up the remote with AA cells temporarily wired in to see if the remote will operate. If the remote operates, you can search for replacement batteries. Good luck as it is a worthwhile project.

Thanks mate - I'll have a look and see how we go :)

Did you open the remote? I'm still trying:(

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

I have managed to open the remote without damaging it. But unable to find the replacement battery pack online.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Can you post a photo? I’m probably going to have to go down the same route rather than spend €60 every two years!

@thomassibu If you do as @simonjones83784 suggests and post a photo of the battery, it's entirely possible the iFixit community may be able to help locate one; I've rebuilt battery packs where I couldn't locate the exact replacement.

In addition, as Simon was asking, it would be great if you could also add pictures of what it takes to open the remote up since you've discovered a secret that has eluded many others.

I had the same problem.

If the remote is connected to usb-c cable it shows is fully charged and remote works.

I opened the remote and apply gently some pressure on the battery, after that remote is working, not sure for how long.

Battery can be easily replaced only if we can find the exact type and dimensions.

Hi @ruslanharea

Search online for 462223 3.85V lipo battery to find battery suppliers that suit you best. (supplier examples only)

Note: The battery in the image you posted shows 0.83Wh (Watt hours) which = 215mAH (milli Ampere hours) if used with a 3.85V battery. The mAH value may be shown on some batteries instead of the Wh value.

I have disconnected the battery. I have a Samsung solar remote for a Samsung QN85CA 75.

Not sure where I can find a replacement part here in New Zealand?

The remote goes as long as the power cable is connected, and I could charge the remote to 100%, however when I disconnected the power cable, the remote would just go dead :(

Factory reset and tv reset doesn’t work.

Hi @jayderangi77835

Look for the model number printed on the battery itself and then search online for the number to hopefully find suppliers that suit you best.

Two QR Codes that I can scan

P0986B013187A83533 but I can’t find a part?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@jayderangi77835

Does it look like this

Use a voltmeter to check the voltage of the battery to see if it is 3.8V DC. its dimensions are 4.6mm deep x 22mm wide x 23mm long

If you think it's the one then search for P0986B.

I think that rest of the number is possibly the individual battery number or perhaps a part number idk

As it is only two wires, red is +ve and black is -ve so make sure that you reconnect it back the same way if you get a new one i.e. red to red, black to black assuming that the plug fits into the battery socket in the remote

I've opened my Samsung solar remote to my QN65QN90 and it's clear they don't want us to replace the battery. There are no obvious connectors to disconnect from the board or attach a new battery. I brought the tv brand new in 2021 and three years later, I'm forced to buy a new remote. Unacceptable Samsung!

Mine also stopped holding a charge after about three years. I found a high quality (?) replacement on Amazon Prime for $10. Definitely easier than trying to replace the battery.
