The Wii U is a video game console paired with a handheld device made by Nintendo that allows users to play games on the GamePad. Repairing the console is straightforward as the device is very modular.

Disc Drive Wii vs Wii U

So in in another forum I saw that "The Wii U only had one Optical Disc Drive, so you can really use any Wii drive. It has the same ODD as the Original Wii, so you can buy a Wii drive and put it in your Wii U." If this is the case, what are the chances that with the proper homebrew, the Wii U can recognize the Game Cube games as it uses the Wii disc drive?

The Wii U never had GCN compatibility out of the box, and the only way to play GameCube games on it is to homebrew the Virtual Wii (vWii) and use Nintendont with a USB flash drive that has GCN backups on it. You can find multiple YouTube videos on how to do this. Hope this helps!
