Can my laptop recover from this water spill?

It looks like only one part is eroded inside my MacBook Air. Is it an important part? And how do I remedy it? Thank you.

Good afternoon,

ouch, that's bad. I am gonna say that this thing is kinda screwed. First step is always to keep the laptop off and clean the corrosion.

Now, i could bore you all arvo on the reasons why this thing could be screwed, but that's not gonna fix it. So hopefully this will:

  1. Disconnect the battery by removing the connector
  2. Remove the board
  3. Take some Alcohol and clean all the green shmoo (corrosion)
  4. Visually inspect the board and ensure nothing has blown
  5. (If nothing is burnt/broken) put it back in the laptop and try powering it up. If it smokes then your done for. If it powers up and display an apple logo, that's good.
  6. (If something has burned) If you can find the audio board then you can fit it into the machine or, it's the end of the road without assistance from a professional tech

Hope that helps :)

I turned it off immediately. I appreciate the directions but your comment is making me think why even bother trying to fix it because it doesn’t sound like it can be.

@atticus26 Hmmmmm depends.

You gotta clean it before you can tell if it's worth it or not. Besides, i think everything is worth it. If it doesn't turn on, disconnect the small audio board and power on (IF THERE'S NO LIQUID ANYWHERE ELSE). generally, that board will block power to the rest of the system.

An alternative option is to look at listings on sites such as ebay and find a parts laptop. Like this one.

@atticus26 "bother trying to fix it because it doesn’t sound like it can be" sure it can be. IF you feel like you absolutely can't fix it, replacing the audio board is not a terribly complicated task MacBook Air 13" Early 2020 Audio Board Replacement
