Repair and disassembly information for Sony WH-1000XM3 wireless noise-cancelling over-ear headphones.

Won't turn on, won't charge (no red indicator light)

Hi everybody ✌️

My headphones don't turn on at all. No lights come on either.

They also don't seem to charge. There is no red light turning on when I plug it in.

I though maybe the battery died after the headphones where in the car on a hot day. But the battery seems fine visually.

I also tied to unplug it for 20mim or so. Nothing changed.

I checked the USB board visually but it seems fine too.

The flexcable connecting the USB board with the Mainboard in the right earspears looks a little suspicious. It looked like this already before I pulled it out. Maybe that's the issue? 🤔

I just don't know where to get the right one. I'm located in Germany.

Does someone have an idea? That would be awesome.

Cheers Sam

Hi @sam37109

Use an Ohmmeter and check each wire in the ribbon cable, for continuity from end to end for each wire, especially those that look damaged.

As you said, the cable looks suspicious, so it may be a broken wire or more than one.

I Sam !⏎

I have the same problem, but for me it came differently.⏎

I still don't know how I could remedy it, but maybe my experience could help find a way to do it?⏎

At first, I dropped my Sony on the floor 2 or 3 times, it was on the 4th time that the problem started to arise. I mean, for me, at first my headphones would sometimes just turn off without doing anything. I'd have to plug it in to charge it a bit to “reset” it so I could turn it back on.⏎

After a few weeks, the headset systematically shut down when I tried to turn it on with my phone's NFC...⏎

And then I could only turn the headset back on after opening, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery...

I changed the battery for a new one, it doesn't matter...

After looking at the multiple solderings of the small cables I noticed that 2 solderings were bad and I also noticed that when I moved some cables the earphone worked, so I redid the solderings and put a new scotch tape back to hold the wires and from then on my earphone worked perfectly again for a few months.⏎

But after a little fall on the table, the earphone doesn't work anymore, I didn't take the time to try and touch up all the soldering...

Anyway, I hope that after reading all this, maybe someone could enlighten us?

Florian
