I suspect the edge of the display adhesive is chemically changing, off gassing causing the polarizer sheets to break down. It appears the ambient light is reflecting off with a red glow.
LCD screens use polarizer sheets to bend the light. Basically, the light from the back light is filtered in one direction, then the light is passed through the LCD panel which alters the twist of the light so the locations the ligh is twisted pass through the top filter which is at 90 degrees of the first sheet. Very odd indeed! Was the system serviced at one point that the display was removed? And did you noted this after that point.
