Why is my dishwasher on fire?

The drain pump on my LG model LDF5678ST dishwasher (just over 3 years old) started making a weird noise and thus the cycle would not start. The drain pump is inexpensive and relatively easy to replace, so I did. No change...same noise. So I took a video in order to make this post and this time sparks started to fly! In the still image you can see one of the plugs is burned. Guessing this is a bug and not a feature. ;-)

Any suggestions where to go from here?

We had this problem. It is apparently a faulty part. LG came out and fixed it free even though it was out of warranty.

@ericbiggs take a look at your main PCB and see what you got going on there. Impressive light effects.

You know that you most likely will need a new harness (just check it with an ohmmeter to make sure there are no internal shorts0. If you still have the old pump, you could try and if you can recreate the light show or if this was just a bad pump.

The wiring diagram etc. may help you with the repair on this as well. LG LDF5678 SM
