Is there additional display components besides the screen assembly?

Is there another component in a working Pixel 4a (rings, and new text sound goes off if you send it an SMS message) besides the screen that would prevent the screen from displaying?

Hi Doug,

It sounds to me like you replaced the screen but you're still not getting a display, is that right?

To answer your question, after going through the teardown (having worked on my 2XL, niece's 4XL and her 6 Pro), the screen connects directly onto the motherboard, so the only hardware component you haven't accounted for if you've replaced the screen would be the FPC connector on the motherboard. It's not impossible that's the problem, but it wouldn't be my first suspicion. Given that there's really nothing else to check, it's worth a look; get out the old magnifying glass and flashlight and check for any bent or broken pins then clean it with 90% or higher concentration isopropyl alcohol and retest.

If you still can't see anything, we'll need to try to diagnose the issue. First of all, what's the history here? Did the screen get broken, or did it just stop showing pictures like the replacement screen? If the old screen was still functional, can you plug it back in to see if the display comes back with the original?

iFixit was out of Pixel 4a screens so I ordered one elsewhere and most likely this new replacement is bad. The FPC connector looked fine. The phone was in perfect shape until an incident where I was on foot using GPS and stepped into broken pavement and kept my balance but swung the phone down onto the pavement. The screen wasn't cracked but blank with green flashes and other display anomalies. The new screen is blank but lights a small faint strip at the top when the phone rings or I unlock the phone (used another 4a to make a template so I can use the pattern to unlock the phone)
