Hi @charlottecarson,
Try using a known working, compatible charger or charger cable and check if after a while (1-2 hours) the tablet indicates it is charging. If it does allow it to fully charge and then try turning it on.
If it still doesn't work, has the tablet been dropped or gotten wet at all?
If not or even if so, the tablet will have to be opened and checked to see what's wrong. It may be a loose or faulty charging jack or a faulty battery for example.
What is the model number of the tablet as shown at the bottom of the rear cover? The correct, compatible parts can be hard to find for Kindles due to the confusion over model names and generations. It is easier if you search for the model number and not the name (and Gen).
