Wire on the handheld vacuum broke off

There is a thin wire on the handheld part of the vacuum that you insert into the wand. It rests in a small groove on the part that goes into the wand. What does this do? The vacuum seems to be running okay without it.

@marypap I wonder if that is the power cable for any brush motor. Post some good pictures of where this wire sits/goes etc. The more we see the easier it might be to identify and fix it. Adding images to an existing question
