Frame holding the opening hinges broken

My laptop doesn't shut properly and if I force it, the hinges are likely to break etc. I took the laptop to a repair shop and they said the plastic frame that the hinges are secured onto is snapped internally and I would need to replace this. However, I can't seem to find this part anywhere. I sent the laptop to HP and they almost quoted the price of a new laptop to cover the cost of repair. I'm told the hinges are ok, but snapped plastic mount inside, the hinges wont work. The laptop is outside the warranty period :(

Hi @manishv

Do you mean the lid cover or the top cover where the keyboard is located?

In any event here's the maintenance and service guide for the HP ENVY 13-ba0000 Laptop PC series laptops that will help.

On p.21-25 Item #2 you will find the HP part numbers for all the top cover models available for the laptop series. They are country specific because the keyboard is part of the assembly so if this is the part you need, ensure that you find the correct one. Usually the part number can be found somewhere on the underside of the top cover if you wish to verify. As you said, not cheap.

On p.28 Item #6 (but shown as Item #8 on p.27) you will find the HP part number for the lid cover.

Search online using the required part number only to find suppliers that suit you best.

The manual describes the necessary pre-requisite steps and the procedures to completely dis assembly it, so that you can replace any removable part listed in the manual.

Click on the arrow to the left of Removal and replacement procedures for authorized service provider parts in the left column of the manual and then click on either display assembly or keyboard/top cover depending on which you need to replace.

Hi @jayeff

Thank you for your prompt response the providing the link to the maintenance guide for this laptop. I think you're right, it must be the cover to which the plastic brackets and hinges are attached to. I will check and revert back once I've had a chance to check. Much appreciated :)

Hey, I had this same issue on my laptop, (same model) I ended up using epoxy to glue the threaded inserts back in place, and I loosened up the hinge so it didn’t happen again. Not as ideal as replacing the whole part, but a lot cheaper. Worked quite well, just have to be more careful with it. I’m currently trying to deal with a separate issue, which caused me to stumble upon this thread.

Just had to make sure the epoxy doesn’t touch the motherboard. Could corrode the board or something

Hi,

I had the same problem. The left hand hinge on my HP laptop broke and this put the stress on the screen which then pulled apart its various layers. Repair shops said they couldn't help because they didn't have the parts for this model. I found a crude but effective way to solve the problem. I attached a mini glass clamp which is used for glass top tables. I attached the clamp to the left hand bottom corner of the screen and tightened it in with an allen key. Now the stress of opening doesn't flex and break the screen. It works fine, although the laptop does not close perfectly flush. The type of clamp used is shown in the link below.
