Second generation of iPhone. Model A1241 / 8 or 16 GB capacity / black or white plastic back. Repair is more straightforward than the first iPhone. requires screwdrivers, prying, and suction tools.

Touch screen not working after replacement

hello! i have a iPhone 3G 8gb, and it got dunked int he toilet. Everything works on it except the touch screen, it is completely unresponsive. so i changed the touch part of the display as i always have with unresponsive screens, and it still doesnt work. I tried a firmware restore and that didnt work. I cant do the sensitivity increase because the screen doesnt work at all. i dont know what to do. Is the logic board fried? i can turn it on and the home button and volume/vibrate buttons work. i havent found any other solutions to fix this, im hoping i didnt spend 60 bucks for a touch screen and it not be the problem :(

I have, I double checked everything, and I've done this before to other iPhones. I tried restoring it, and everything. I'm wondering if the touchscreen controller is fried on the logic board. Is it possible they sent me a bad panel?

That's completely possible but usually I would expect water damage to be worse than just the touch panel. It may be that the touch functions of the logic board are fried.

I have the same issue..I have taken a working screen from another 3G and it acts the same.. It's as if something is not processing the input from the screen..

Mine aslo was a dunk in the toilet! Is this a motherboard issue or is there a replacable part for processing input from the touchscreen?

Well it does seem that the only broken part is the touch panel. Make sure you carried out the repair 100% correct.

Same has happened here, nicely smashed front glass, replaced the whole frontal assembly just to be "quick and easy", alas to no avail, touch screen doesn't respond, tried with old/original unit, still doesn't work either.

I fix a few iPhones/iPods a week and 3G (and 3GS) units are usually the simplest of them all, but this time it looks like it might well be an onboard controller fault :(
