Are you using the iPhone as a WiFi hotspot for the the laptop's WiFi internet connection?
Can't you connect to any other WiFi network to get internet connection?

I don't know iPhones that well, but what model iPhone is it and can the laptop "see" or detect the WiFi network from the phone or any other WiFi network in your area even though you can't connect to them?
Just trying to determine whether the problem is with the phone or the laptop.
