The Lenovo Yoga 920-13IKB is a two-in-one laptop that functions as both a laptop and tablet by flipping the screen around.

Laptop does not turn on with power button, but when plugged in

Why does my laptop not turn on when pressing the power button, but when I plug the charger in, it turns on automatically?

Once it turns on, I can remove the charger and the laptop stays on battery for hours, like it should. I changed my original laptop battery with an OEM battery by iFixit, since then this problem exists.

  • I did not change any software settings.
  • The power button still works to turn the laptop off.
  • Before first usage I charged the battery to 100%, let the battery drain to 0% and charged it up all the way again.
  • I built the laptop apart again and re-plugged the battery connection but the problem remains.

Btw, an interesting detail: Since the battery swap my laptop now also shows a wrong time whenever I turn it on and needs to be synchronised every time.

I have the same issue with my lenovo yoga 920 13ikb glass... it's frustrating

I have the same issue with both (a) the purchased replacement and (b) the replacement iFixIt sent after reporting the issue. Note that I haven't noticed the time issue mentioned in earlier posts. As mentioned by others, I only need the charger plugged in to trigger the boot and then can disconnect it without issue... though it won't boot again after being turned off without reattaching the charger.

Another thing I noticed is that the computer WILL turn on with the charger disconnected IF I turn it on immediately after disconnecting... if I wait "too long" (probably less than 5 seconds?), this won't work. It seems like there's some protocol/handshake issue between the battery and the computer - once the computer completely powers down (e.g., seconds after the screen goes off when unplugged?), the computer forgets there's a power source connected at all, unless it sees it connected to USB-C first.

I'm going to contact iFixIt again, but it seems they haven't worked this with the battery supplier, and don't have a technical solution. For now, I'll carry a battery pack and cable to trigger the boot.

did this problem start as soon as you used the ifixit battery?

you might have a DOA battery

https://help.ifixit.com/category/133-con...

you might want to get a new one, and luckily they have a warranty on batteries so you could get a replacement

I contact the customer support now and will let you know the response.

Thank you.

The customer support was very quick and friendly and sent me another battery. However this battery has just the same problem. I tried with the original battery, and that one does in fact still work. Visually there's a difference between the original and the two new batteries: the original has a Lenovo logo. In short: My problem still persists and is haunting me every day :(

@benedikt85791 could it possibly be a power button issue?

Can you power down the laptop with the power button?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Yes I can power down the laptop with the power button. Also with the original battery everything works like it should, so I don’t think it’s a problem of the button itself.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Hi.

I noticed sommething

When i plugged in an external dvd reader ,than i let it plugged in,and turned off the laptop, and unplugged the charger, the power button works till the dvd reader is plugged in,so i think the problem is that the battery dont give energy to the laptop when it is turned off...very confusing.
