Why does the power switch on my DS lite move so slowly?

When I push up on the power switch, it moves up just fine. But, when it goes to move back down, it moves super slowly, which causes the system to think I’m pushing it up again. This causes the system to power off when I turn it on or vice versa. How can I fix this?

Update (02/24/2023)

FYI, I want to do my best to prevent opening up my DS lite, since I don’t want to ruin anything.

Hi,

You may have no other option than to open it up and check what is happening with the power button.

Here's the ifixit Nintendo DS Lite Power Switch Replacement guide that will help if you decide to do this.
