Recovery query on iPhone 11

Hi all,

Is there any way to check if someone has done or attempted to do an iPhone messaging recovery on my iPhone 11 using one of those free apps. I think someone has done it without my permission.

Thank you

@dean8015, As far as I know, no such apps / applications talk back to the iPhone and “leaves” a trace about being used.

Same way when I recover (or try to recover) data from a disk / SSD, when I run my apps, it only goes sector by sector seeing what’s there. If data were written to a sector, and not overwritten it can bring it back.

There are only two ways of truly deleting data:

  1. Overwrite every single sector with new data, to completely wipe what was there (back when I took my certification, DoD standards required the sectors to be overwritten 7 times in order to be deemed deleted.)
  2. Expose the disk to high intensity magnetic fields (degaussing). That will destroy the data if powerful enough

None of these will leave a trace on the disk (other than the fact that the data has been deleted). Disk(s) show zero information about having been attempted recovered.
